Worksheet Generator Guide
Overview
The handwriting practice sheet generator creates printable worksheets on the fly in your browser. You type the text you want to practise, choose your settings, and print or save as a PDF — no downloads, no account, no cost.
Step 1 — Enter your practice text
Type any words, sentences, or letter sequences in the "Practice text" box. Each line of text becomes one row set on the worksheet. Good starting content:
- A familiar name, when name writing is part of the current assignment
- The alphabet:
a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z - Sight words your student is currently learning
- Pangrams (every letter used): The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
- Vocabulary words from current schoolwork
Step 2 — Choose a writing style
- Print (manuscript) — separate letterforms rendered with a generic print display font.
- Connected cursive — joined script rendered with a generic cursive display font. Use it only when it matches the learner's assignment.
- Slanted print — a generic casual handwritten font with a forward slant. It is not an official D'Nealian curriculum model.
Step 3 — Choose guide lines
The guide line system defines the horizontal reference lines printed on each row:
- 4-line — top line, midline, baseline, and descender line.
- 3-line — top line, midline, and baseline, with no descender guide.
- Single ruled — one baseline.
- No lines — model or blank rows without horizontal guides.
Step 4 — Choose letter height
Letter height controls the relative size of each practice row:
- Extra large — the most writing space and the fewest rows per page
- Large — the default balance of writing space and page capacity
- Medium — more text per page
- Small — the most compact layout
These are not grade placements or guaranteed inch measurements. Browser and printer scaling affect the physical output.
Step 5 — Set tracing rows and model display
Tracing rows sets how many blank practice rows appear after the model row. Choose the count required by the assignment and check the page count in the print dialog.
Model display controls how the text appears on the model row:
- Dotted trace — the model text appears in grey dots.
- Solid grey — the model text appears as a solid copy reference.
- Hidden — no model text; only the selected guides and blank rows.
Step 6 — Print or save as PDF
Click Print / Save PDF. In the browser print dialog:
- To save a PDF: choose "Save as PDF" (Chrome/Edge) or use the PDF dropdown bottom-left (Mac Safari)
- To print directly: select your printer and use standard paper (US Letter 8.5 × 11 in is default)
- Review the print preview before saving or printing; scaling controls vary by browser
- Print one test page and measure it when physical spacing matters
Limitations
- The generator uses web fonts (Google Fonts); the dotted model reflects a display font approximation of the style, not an official curriculum font file
- Exact printed dimensions depend on your printer and its margin settings — always verify with a ruler on the first print
- Text is capped at 500 characters; long lines wrap and long worksheets paginate across Letter pages
